About Van Alstyne
Van Alstyne was built in 1872, for settlers to be near the railroad stop of the Houston and Texas Central Railway. Van Alstyne is a rural city in Grayson County about 20 minutes North of McKinney off US 75. Van Alstyne has a number of historic homes as well as new homes built by upper end builders like Highland Homes.
Van Alstyne has a downtown that was started about 1870 with shopping and good restaurants. The town also has a collection of large historical homes like the Queen Ann Victorian Humpress-Taylor Home built in 1903. James Umpress built his home for his wife Julia just after returning from the Civil War.
